HTC Sell 50,000 One E8s in 15 Minutes After Chinese Launch

When HTC first launched the HTC One (M8), there were rumors already swirling off an HTC One Mini 2, some sort of more powerful device and something called the “Ace”. The HTC One Mini 2 has been an official member of the One family for some time and the Ace became the HTC One E8, a plastic, more affordable version of the M8 aimed at the Asian market, where there's stiff competition to sell high-end devices for as little as possible. For all intents and purposes, the E8 is the full fat M8 that a lot of us know and love, with some exceptions.
The E8 features the same BoomSound speakers, the same Snapdragon 801 and 2GB of RAM, but loses the second camera module on the rear of the device, instead opting for a single 13-megapixel camera. Selfie fans will be happy to hear the wide-angle 5-megapixel front-facing camera is still here though. The device was announced a little while ago and has now officially gone on sale in China, where HTC's official Weibo account is claiming that 50,000 units have been sold in just 15 minutes. Regardless of how you feel about HTC's current line-up, to sell that many devices in a quarter of an hour is no mean feat.
Asia has long been thought of as a place for HTC to regain some of their lost fortune as it becomes harder and harder to compete with the likes of Samsung here in the West. In China, the HTC One E8 sells for 2,999 Yuan which isn't the cheapest device available, but for something of this caliber, that's a very good price, indeed. Will the E8 continue to prove successful as it racks up more sales? We hope so, as it'd be a shame for HTC's latest product fail, but judging from initial figures it looks like the E8 is off to a very good start, indeed.
