Like it or not, Apple is still king when it comes to music consumption. While many have tried to overcome it’s domination, it’s going to take a seismic shift for the masses to unchain themselves from their iTunes libraries.
However, if you’re an Android-user looking to sync your device to iTunes, then we have a very easy method we’d like to share with you.
By using Google’s very own Google Play Music, users are able to wirelessly stream tracks and playlists from various sources. First off you’ll need to download both the Google Play Music app on your Android device and the Google Play Music manager on your desktop.
You then have to sync your iTunes music to your Google Play Music account in a few simple steps;

• Open the Music manager on your desktop and select the UPLOAD tab.
• You can then sync the whole iTunes library or select specific playlists.
• Remember that syncing them to your Play Music library doesn’t automatically download them to your device, so you can experiment as you please at this stage.
• Open Google Play Music app on your device and select ALL MUSIC from the drop down menu toward the top.
• Select MY LIBRARY to view the music currently in your Google Music Play library.
• This will now allow you to stream music via WiFi. However if you want to sync the music to your device, simply press on a song, album or playlist and select KEEP ON DEVICE.

Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat firmware leaked

AT&T Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat firmware leaked (I337UCUFMLD) 

An Android 4.4 KitKat firmware has leaked for the AT&T variant of the Galaxy S4 on the XDA forums. Released by designgears, the firmware has build number I337UCUFMLD and a build date of January 2nd, which means it’s not as new as the latest KitKat firmware that leaked for the international version of Samsung’s flagship. However, it should still let users try out Android 4.4 on their devices before it officially rolls out, as long as they’re willing to flash pre-release firmware.
Before you proceed to download the firmware, there are a couple of things to note. First, it comes with new bootloaders, which might make it impossible to go back to an Android 4.3 firmware later on. Furthermore, you might not be able to root it until someone comes up with a root hack, and the firmware has an issue that causes the phone to reboot whenever you fire up a video.

Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware leaked

AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware leaked (N900AUCECMLG) 

An Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware for the AT&T Galaxy S4 was leaked yesterday, but as we later found out, it was accompanied by a KitKat firmware for the carrier’s Galaxy Note 3 as well. Carrying build number N900AUCECMLG, the Note 3 firmware has a build date of January 4, and seems to have most of the KitKat features implemented and ready to be used. However, the leaked firmware includes new bootloaders, as is the case with the S4′s firmware, so you’ll have to keep in mind that you might not be able to return to Android 4.3 if you try it out on your Galaxy Note 3.

Samsung gains market share in U.S. in Q4 2013 

The last three months of the year usually see increased smartphone sales, and that helped Samsung increase its market share in the U.S. by 1.2 percent in the last quarter of 2013, going up from 24.9 percent to 26.1 percent, a growth that’s more or less similar to what the Korean manufacturer achieved in the third quarter. This is a good indication that while the Galaxy Note 3 received critical acclaim and sold in drovers, it hasn’t helped Samsung move too close to Apple – in fact, Apple saw the same amount of growth as its biggest rival, which is a good sign of the saturation the high-end market is facing at the moment.

Apple and Samsung - Patent?

Apple and Samsung submit a final list of infringed patents ahead of trial 

Samsung might have signed a landmark cross-licensing deal with Google for the next ten years, but it still has to contend with Apple on patent infringement claims. The two organizations drew up a final list of all patents that they allege were infringed upon, with a court trial date set for March 31. The narrowed list of patents were submitted to Judge Lucy Koh following her decision last year which required both organizations to limit the number of patents and products that needed to be scrutinised by a jury.
Florian Mueller of FOSS Patents notes that the changes now meant that both “parties are allowed take five patent claims each to trial. After the September narrowing, they both would have been free to choose one claim per patent, i.e., to maximize the number of different patents-in-suit, which would have been the logical choice for both.” However, Samsung only had four patents left to take to trial, so it decided to assert a second claim on one of the patents.
Apple is accusing a total of ten Samsung products, which include the Admire, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S II, Galaxy S II Epic Touch 4G, Galaxy S II Skyrocket, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, and Stratosphere. Here is a list of the patents that Apple will take to the trial:

1. U.S. Patent No. 5,946,647: claim 9 (“data tapping” patent)
2. U.S. Patent No. 6,847,959: claim 25 (Siri-style unified-search patent)
3. U.S. Patent No. 7,761,414: claim 20 (asynchronous data synchronization)
4. U.S. Patent No. 8,046,721: claim 8 (slide-to-unlock image)
5. U.S. Patent No. 8,074,172: claim 18 (auto-complete)

Samsung, meanwhile, is saying that the iPhone 4, iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPad 4, iPad mini, iPod touch (fourth-generation), iPod touch (fifth-generation), and MacBook Pro infringe on its patents. Samsung’s claims include:

1. U.S. Patent No. 7,756,087: claim 10 (non-scheduled transmission over enhanced uplink data channel; declaration of standard-essentiality to ETSI in May 2006)
2. U.S. Patent No. 7,551,596: claim 13 (signaling control information of uplink packet data service; declaration of standard-essentiality to ETSI in May 2010)
3. U.S. Patent No. 6,226,449: claim 27 (recording and reproducing digital image and speech)
4. U.S. Patent No. 5,579,239: claims 1 and 15 (remote video transmission system)

Galaxy S5 to reportedly feature swipe fingerprint sensor developed by Samsung 

 

We’ve seen an  overwhelming amount of rumors and speculation on the matter of a fingerprint sensor being present on the Galaxy S5, Samsung’s highly anticipated fifth-generation Galaxy S flagship. We recently heard that the S5 could feature a fingerprint sensor embedded into its display, and giving credence to that rumor is a report from ETNews, which indicates the Korean manufacturer will be using a swipe fingerprint sensor that it has developed in-house.

Swipe fingerprint scanners work by detecting a swipe across the sensor, which is unlike the touch fingerprint sensor adopted by Apple on the iPhone 5s, so putting the scanner beneath the display makes sense as it would offer a larger area on which a user could comfortably swipe their finger than a dedicated button would do. Developing the sensor in-house also makes sense, as it has often been rumored that the fingerprint sensors Samsung was thinking of sourcing from a third-party manufacturer weren’t too advanced, especially when compared to the one Apple is using on its latest iPhone. Furthermore, it would give Samsung control over production and help it ensure there are enough sensor units to go around for the millions of Galaxy S5s it will no doubt sell, though the latter might not be an issue if Samsung intends to keep the fingerprint feature exclusive to the premium metallic version of the device.
Of course, whether the Galaxy S5 really will have a fingerprint sensor is still up for debate. Most signs point to yes, though it would be best to remain skeptical until Samsung officially announces the device or more credible leaks emerge. It’s not exactly the most anticipated feature on anyone’s mind, so it’s not like most would mind if Samsung postpones the debut of a fingerprint sensor to the Galaxy Note 4 or the Galaxy S6.

EXCLUSIVE: A look at Samsung’s updated S Voice app 

 

Samsung adds a multitude of features and services on top of what Google already provides with Android, and we recently offered our readers an exclusive look on updated versions of two of those apps – S Health and WatchON. Today, we have screenshots of a newer version of S Voice, Samsung’s personal assistant app, which is expected to debut on future devices like the Galaxy S5. As with the S Health and WatchON apps, Samsung has made a few changes to the interface, though in case of S Voice, we can’t say those changes are for the better, as the app looks as unattractive as it does in its currently available avatar (though the design is noticeably flatter.) It has, however, become noticeably faster in terms of voice detection, though it’s still not as good as Google Now at recognizing accents (and probably never will be, considering Google’s expertise at voice recognition.)
